Broken Silence

My daughter and I started the day as usual.
With each day getting longer, our morning routine is a bit brighter.
On our way out the door Bri had stopped dead in her tracks as I turned to shut the door.
When I turned back to walk off the deck, still standing silent,
She threw her arm out to stop me.
She didn’t say a word, she just stood there staring. I looked up to see what she was staring at.
What I saw stopped me in my tracks. The sky was a bright red with a pinkish hue.
The underside of undulating clouds lit by the morning sun.
The ice on the trees cradled tiny shimmering rubies.
We both stood there silent, captivated by the beauty of the moment, just taking it all in….
She broke the silence and she said ‘one of these days let’s sit out here and paint that’
Would I have stopped to ‘consider the lilies of the field’ if she hadn’t stopped me?
How lucky I am to have her. It’s times like these I know I am a wealthy man….
